    Event description

Its National Recycling Week so we are heading out to our local Recycling Sorting Facility - CAWRA - to see recycling in action and learn what actually happens to our kerbside recycling when we put out our bin on bin night!

The Port Environment Centre Waste Advisory Group is passionate about recycling and public education, we want to empower you to recycle correctly and keep material out of landfill! Thanks to the City of Port Adelaide Enfield for partnering with us on this event.

Join us on Monday November 11th at CAWRA, the Central Adelaide Waste & Recycling Authorities, MRF (Material Recycling Facility) for a behind the scenes look at how your recycling is sorted and where its goes next. The MRF is very cool, it uses infrared technology to sort mixed waste and is largely automated. There are conveyor belts and machines and all kinds of interesting technology!

The tour will include a short presentation and an opportunity to ask all your burning recycling questions, so come prepared. We are probably all guilty of "wish-cycling", which is when we pop things in the yellow bin in the hope that they will end up being recycled but the system is not currently set up to take them. If there is ANYTHING you are not certain about like putting bottle lids in a milk container, fabric, tetrapaks, ask your questions on this tour.

To tour the MRF you are required to wear closed in shoes.
