Many well-meaning allies want to stand with Indigenous people but struggle to know where their support should go. Some organizations present themselves as “tribes” when they are actually nonprofits or corporations, and the difference is often unclear to the public. This confusion has real consequences: misdirected grants, improper consultations, and a loss of respect for Indigenous voices.

Key principles of sovereignty will be covered, including why tribes are sovereign governments, not cultural clubs or 501c3 charities, and how recognition, governance, and descent make the difference. By the end of the session, you will know how to invest your support responsibly, avoid common pitfalls, and ensure your actions uplift real Tribal Nations.
