Native Garden Expo at Newport Lakes Reserve

Join us for a special Native Garden Expo at the scenic Newport Lakes Reserve!

Discover the beauty and benefits of native gardens, which are not only low-maintenance and drought-resistant but create crucial habitat for local wildlife, including threatened species like the Altona Skipper Butterfly and Swift Parrot.

At the Expo, you’ll learn how to set up your own habitat garden with expert advice on native plants. Plus, enjoy free wildlife face painting and activities for the kids and native plants to get you started at home!

Bring your friends and family for an afternoon of learning and fun, and don't miss this opportunity to beautify your garden and do your bit for local biodiversity. 

The day will feature:

1:30pm Dean Stewart - Healing country, healing ourselves
2:30pm Emmaline Bowman, STEM Landscape – How to create a beautiful native garden and wildlife habitat
3:30pm Guided walks through the reserve with Ranger Andrew AND Newport Lakes Native Nursery tours including native propagation tips

FREE native plants, with conservation experts on hand to answer your native plant and wildlife gardening questions
FREE wildlife facepainting for kids! Will you choose the Swift Parrot, Growling Grass Frog, Golden Sun Moth or even the Legless Lizard?

Please note that this is an event for Naarm/Melbourne gardeners only. If you live outside this area, please contact your council to find out what free sustainable gardening events are available locally. 

If you have any access or support questions or requirements in order to participate fully (eg. interpreter), please let us know at least two weeks prior to the event and we will be pleased to assist you. Photos will be taken at this event, but there is an option to opt out on the day.
