How to feed the native plants that feed us? That’s what Clarence Slockee (from ABC’s Gardening Australia) and Matt McKay will teach you all about in the Native Plant Nourishment workshop. Matt and Clarence are teaming up to tackle the complexities of the native food world, making links between Aboriginal Culture and modern Permaculture. This workshop caters to anyone new to these concepts as well as those more well-versed. Either way, we guarantee you will take home insights that you didn’t walk in with!

This workshop is an introduction to the philosophies and practices which can be used to create and nurture native plant landscapes for the benefit of all. The key learning of this workshop focus will be the home garden setting, showcasing how native plants can be effectively and respectfully incorporated into small or large garden spaces. Your workshop consists of both a guided tour and a hands-on component:
- The hands-on session will revolve around methods of simple propagation, site analysis and tips for feeding the plants that feed us.
- The tour of the new Native Food & Fibre Walk on the Green Connect Farm will highlight species suitable for the conditions of the Illawarra.
The site is a working farm and is particularly steep and slippery in parts and, at this stage, is not accessible for prams, wheelchairs etc. The workshop includes a moderately strenuous walking tour of a steep, sloping and often very muddy site. It is your responsibility to ensure you can walk the site before making your booking. See the video above to check this is right for you.
