Event description

Native Plants and Animals

Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the coast learning how to identify our special native flora and fauna.

About this event

Meet at the Bunurong Environment Centre at the corner of Ramsey Blvd and The Esplanade in Inverloch.

Following a presentation and safety briefing which will explain how our plants and animals have changed over the years and help participants learn how to identify the common species of the area, the group will walk along the beach and dune area identifying the native plants and animals encountered along the way, noting imported and weed species and pest organisms. You will meet some of the birds, insects and other creatures that call Inverloch home and that come out during the daytime, learn to recognise common native plants found on the dunes and in the reserves in this area and find out which plants are weeds and why.  Our presenter will be able to describe some of the uses First Nations people made of the plants encountered.

You will find the apps BirdNET and PlantNET helpful in confirming your identification of particular species.  Warm clothing will be needed in cooler weather and sun protection should be worn.

Please Note:

  • All attendees including adults accompanying children and children and infants under 5 yrs old must purchase a ticket.
  • Tickets for children and infants under 5 yrs old are free
  • Groups may be up to 25 people.
