Event description

Come for small group leather tanning tuition and mentoring to learn the ancient art of leather tanning naturally. 

Multiple dates are available for you to be able to book times that suit you for working on your chosen project and process animals skins with everything you need plus instruction on how to do it at the Backyard Buckskin Natural Leather Tanning Studio.  

Choose your own adventure and learn either how to make furskin, buckskin or rawhide.

For locals and visitors to Northern Rivers in Ocean Shores NSW.  

Bring any animal skins that you are working on OR choose a salmon, goat and sheep skin from the Backyard Buckskin skin storage.  Hides are prepared and ready for you to start working on during your first session with their price included in the tuition. 

Get hands-on guided tuition with all materials, equipment and tools supplied from an experienced and passionate natural leather tanning instructor, Ei Yang.

Tools are also available for sale so that you can tan your own hides at home.

Sessions are up to 3 hours long with tasks depending on what is required for the skin you are working on.   

HOW TO BOOK A SESSION:

1. Select a date for your first session
2. Place your booking for a CASUAL SESSION
3. Indicate whether you need a skin or can bring your own

WHAT TO EXPECT: 

- Fish oil tan - 2 sessions

- Fish veg tan - 2 sessions

- Goat furskin - 4 sessions

- Sheep furskin / sheepskin rug - 5 sessions

- Rawhide - 2 sessions

- Veg tan goat leather -  4 sessions

- Brain Tan Buckskin - 5 sessions

MORE INFORMATION:

* PRICES ARE SLIDING SCALE OR exchange available by prior arrangement for eg. work exchange hours. *

Sliding scale pricing enables you to pay according to what you choose or do work exchange hours instead.  

* Please book minimum 3 days prior to your first session so that a skin can be prepared for you to use unless bringing your own. *
