Forest Bathing is a term coined in Japan in 1982 by Tomohide Akiyama and put simply means to slow down and be present in the forest. Scientific studies were carried out in early 2000, led by Dr Qing Li, to further affirm that forest bathing benefits overall health and wellbeing. In his book The Art and Science of Forest Bathing Dr Qing Li states that a session of forest bathing has been proven to–boost immune system, increase energy, decrease anxiety and anger, cultivate relaxation, lower cortisol and adrenalin, suppress sympathetic nervous system, enhance parasympathetic nervous system, lower blood pressure, increase heart rate variability and improve sleep patterns.
