Nature-based Creativity (Koonyum Range)
Description
What if the tiredness you carry isn't a lack of rest?
But a withering of relationship?
Most of us spend our days indoors, on screens, braced against a world that won't slow down.
Our nervous system reads that as a threat with no end, so it never quite stands down.
We call it burnout. Underneath it is something older and simpler: we have become cut off from the living world we are made of.
You don't need another way to push through.
You don't need another morning routine, or productivity hack.
You need a way back. A practice. A living thread to the ground beneath the noise.
Nature-based Creativity Restores
Nature-based Creativity = Eco Therapy x Art Therapy
Within our bodies and our nervous systems, some ancient memory persists.
An internal operating system that restores wellness, when we return to good relation with the earth.
Our nervous systems regulate, our brains heal, inflammation reduces, immune function rallies.
Similar benefits flow when we engage in simple creativity.
Nature-based creativity is making art in, with, and from the living world.
It's not art about nature, but art made with the land and the more-than-human world as your collaborator.
It brings together two old forms of healing in one practice:
nature calms and restores the body and nervous system, and
creativity gives feeling shape, meaning, and a voice.
Together they work with each other to deepen our relationship to self and to the earth.
For one day, let the Koonyum hold your hand while we experience what coherence feels like.
Place As Teacher
If you've never been to Wildernest (our venue for the day), you're in for a treat.
Wildernest is a secluded and stunning property, cute and comfortable with potency and quiet power.
You may already know Koonyum Range carries 23 million years of earth wisdom, the slow-eroded rim of the Tweed Shield Volcano.
One of the most biodiverse subtropical rainforest corridors on the continent.
The land here is not a backdrop. It's the oldest teacher in the room.
What We'll Be Doing
We'll walk slowly, the way the place asks to be walked.
We'll forage for our materials; pigments, waters, textures, the colours of this country.
We'll make simple ceremonies of arrival and belonging.
And we create, letting what the living world move through us into something unexpected.
No fixed syllabus. No performance. A series of invitations you take up as they suit you.
You don't need art experience.
You don't need nature experience.
This is a gentle and meaningful immersion.
Your hands already know what to do.
This day simply gives you space to feel what a creative practice in collaboration with nature might feel like.
What You May Feel
When you slow down in a container of care and intention, your body gets the message it has been waiting for:
you are safe, you are held, you can rest.
The moving leaves, the water, the birdsong hold your attention gently, what researchers call soft fascination .
The part of your mind that's been straining all week can finally let go.
In studies of forest immersion, this is the body coming out of fight-or-flight:
stress hormones drop,
the heart settles,
and the nervous system moves toward rest and repair.
Add the quiet focus of making something with your hands,
and you have a practice that calms and expresses at the same time.
What Others Say
"I do not see myself as creative, so this felt like the perfect opportunity for me to step back from my self-judgment and allow nature to create through me. Dean holds a beautiful space where I felt supported in my vulnerability and very connected to the other participants..." Jacquelyn
"I would describe it to a friend as a therapeutic somatic experience of immersing myself in nature and art making without any expectations of myself or the art. Allowing the process to unfold unhindered..." Luciana
"What stood out to me was the amount of love, thought and care that had gone into the creation of the workshop. I felt the workshop had a lovely flow to it and the container you created from the start was one of openness and safety and allowed for authentic expression." Krystyna
This experience isn't doctrine, directive, or dissertation. It's a mud map on a piece of bark, a series of invitations.
This is your invitation to explore a nature-based practice to see if it feels anything like coming home.
This day is for you if?
you're feeling dysregulated, disconnected, or tossed around by a world that won't slow down and you're drawn to nature, creativity, or practice as a way back to yourself,
you're a nature lover or nature curious and would like to be supported in deepening your connection,
you're creative curious or creative veteran like to be supported in starting or deepening your creative practice,
you're curious about the benefits that multiply when you combine nature immersion and art therapy (i.e. Nature-based Creativity).
Bring comfortable clothes and footwear for walking, water, lunch, and a beginner's mind.
All participants will receive a Nature-based Creativity Starter Pack with art materials for the workshop and enough to take home. This is included in the price of tickets.

FAQs
- What is Nature-based Creativity?
It's the question I get asked most.
Short answer: making art with the land, not about it. You go outside, forage your materials, slow to the pace of a place, and let nature shape what you make. No art experience needed. Your hands already know what to do.
It calms the nervous system and gives your feelings somewhere to go. Rest and meaning, in the one practice.
- Do I need to be good at Art?
Absolutely not. This practise is for absolute beginners, stalled creatives, creatives, and most especially for those who say "I don't have got a creative bone in my body".
This practice is about realising that creativity is a faculty gifted to anyone who is curious. It's an opportunity to experience making as a conversation with the earth, not a skill or a set of techniques. - What if I feel afraid of nature?
This event definitely has a nature immersion component. Previous participants with nature phobias found this workshop a safe and engaging way to heal their relationship with nature.
- I have mobility issues, is this event suitable?
The venue has wheelchair and walker access. There will be a bush walking component that will need some alternative activity. However people of capable of moving into and out of a hall, sitting and standing for the making components of the workshop are warmly welcomed.
- Do I need to bring art materials?
All materials are supplied in the cost of the event. However, you can't have too many, so you're welcome to bring your own art and craft supplies if you have favourites. Particularly if you like to share.
- Is there a fixed syllabus?
This event is a thought and experience experiment designed to allow participants to design a practice that feels supportive and helpful to them. You will be introduced to ideas and methodologies and invited to incorporate them into your practice as you see fit.
