Event description

Nature is a home, and home is more than a location – it’s a story we tell and retell. A story shaped by memory, community, survival and care.

Coinciding with Louis Joel Arts & Community’s 20th year, Nature is a Home is a group exhibition featuring artists from the west of Narrm (Melbourne) using a range of mediums like ceramics, photography, paint and painting, sculpture, written text, film, paper and found materials to give voice to their artistic expression exploring how memory, creativity and storytelling sustain our responsibility to nurture both nature (our home) and community.

The works in the exhibition display a strong sense of place, the balm nature provides to help nurture ourselves and our communities, and an awareness of the fragility of nature and its creatures, and the role humans can (and should) play in its survival.

Featured Artists:

Ariana Lim, augustine ang, Elijah Cristiano, Dovey Dee, Fatima Measham, Jenny Rütsch, Julee Latimer, Lan Pagliaro, Mischa Wang & Petra Tomecko, Nandita Nadkarni, [Newport Lakes Story Project: Dominique Hes & Wilhemina Wright, Michael Stewart & David "Marrpan" Bryceson], Rhys Delinac, Simone Cavanagh

Nature is a Home is curated by Jasmeet Kaur Sahi and will remain open at Louis Joel Gallery until 16 July, 2025.

This exhibition is supported by Hobsons Bay City Council and Sweeney Estate agents.
