Nature Journaling - Rippon Lea Estate
Event description
Come along and explore Victoria’s grandest backyard in the 14-acre gardens of Rippon Lea Estate through the practice of nature journaling. Nature journaling is about slowing down, observing something in nature and putting it on the page through drawing, writing, even numbers. No need to be an artist or scientist to experience the joys of nature journaling.
Each session focuses on a different area of these nationally significant grounds, such as the fernery, the orchard, extensive flower gardens, large trees or alongside the lake. We use a combination of science, creativity and mindfulness to explore the details of what nature is offering each season. Nature journaling awakens our senses, deepens our knowledge, extends our observation skills and provides opportunities for wonder and connection to nature.
Join our friendly and relaxed nature journaling workshops, suitable for complete beginners and those experienced. We will wander slowly in the incredible grounds, spend time with different nature treasures and capture our experience on the page. Workshop facilitator Kathleen offers tips, techniques, templates and personalised support as needed. All supplies are provided, including light refreshments. Come as you are, and take home the nature journal pages that you create, with some new skills to be more mindful in your everyday life.
For those new to nature sketching / journaling – come along and learn some techniques in a friendly relaxed session, with all supplies provided. No experience is necessary. Even if you think you are not artistic or creative, this session is for you and you are very welcome.
For those experienced in nature sketching / journaling – come along and join other like-minded people (nature lovers, creatives, mindfulness advocates). There will be a variety of techniques offered. BYO your favourite journal and supplies, or use those provided.
Please note that this is an outdoor session, so wear clothing and footwear suitable for being outdoors and walking on gravel, sometimes uneven paths. Also keep your hands free. We have an indoor option if weather does not suit being outdoors for the duration of the session.
