    Event description

Join Darryl and Cindy-Lee from Lightly in a hands-on children's workshop exploring the theme ' Nature of transition' (in Nature). Darryl is renowned for up-cycling something old into something new by telling a story through painting. He will show you how he paints and how to use your intuition and originality to guide you.

Bring something you treasure from the past or would like to paint on that is meaningful to you. This may be a hat, stool, light shade or shoe!

The Nature of Transition workshop is set against the historic backdrop of the Fremantle Naval Store; this carefully curated experience features a limited collection of works by Cindy-Lee Davies (Lightly) and a select group of local artists, including artist Darryl Dempster for Fremantle Design Week.

The finished children's works will be on display until the 25th of October.

Dempster’s latest work for this exhibition reflects his personal journey of transition and renewal. Known for his expressive hand gestures and limited verbal communication, Dempster’s art speaks volumes about his inner world. His latest painting of a fish resting on the rocks serves as a metaphor for preparation and transformation, symbolising the essence of rest and revival.

A proud Noongar man, Darryl was born and raised in Kepa Kurl (Esperance), Western Australia and moved to Boorloo (Perth) in his early adulthood. Embarking on his creative exploration five years ago, Darryl uncovered his innate talent and passion for art making, using vibrant colours and energetic gestures to communicate his rich inner world.

The Nature of Transition exhibition is a testament to the enduring power of design, community, story and craftsmanship to foster connection, prompt reflection and enrich the human experience for the future.
