Nature Playgroup Term 4 2024
Event description
Note: Session on 23/22/24 is cancelled, ticket holders have been contacted via email and text.
In our technology-rich world, intentional nature play for children has become really important. Nature play gets children active and stimulates thinking about the real world, while simultaneously and innately building a connection and appreciation of natural environments. It’s extremely beneficial for children’s health, and the natural environments.Â
We are overjoyed to announce that Perth City Farm will have a Nature Playgroup from Term 4 2024, thanks in part to support from the Rotary Club of Subiaco.
This family nature playgroup will be for children aged between 2 and 5 years old and their parent/s. It will be facilitated by Erin, a qualified children's educator, who plans and delivers the session each Saturday morning. The parents stay as the primary caregiver for their child or children and get to experience the joy of nature as well.
Each session will have a different theme that responds to the season and what is happening at the Farm. An example of this would be ‘nesting’ in springtime, where the group learns about and explores the concept of nests for birds and reptiles.
A typical playgroup session might include:
- storytelling and singing time,
- a nature walk in which we can explore and observe the environment and wildlife,
- Art/craft activities connected to the theme, and
- unstructured outdoor play in the Farm using play materials-Â building cubbies, boat races in the pond etc.
Expect to get messy and maybe bring a change of clothes!
The sessions will run for 90 minutes. Families can book in for full terms or casual sessions. You will get the best experience if you book this playgroup for the whole term. This will also save you $40 if booking for one child, and $150 for two children. However, we do have some spots available for one off tickets.
At Perth City Farm our purpose is to harness the power of nature and community connection, bringing people together to learn about sustainable living. Our working urban farm is unique in Perth and our weekly Farmer's Market in the courtyard will be running at the same time as the playgroup. So bring your shopping bags and show your children waste-free local shopping at the same time.
