Nature Wellness Walk- McHughs Forest
Event description
Led by Bex Dollery, a local ecologist and holistic health practitioner, these walks will be as much about connecting to nature, our community and self as it is about getting some exercise. The walk will be gentle and include forest bathing practices popular in Japan and South Korea where the knowledge that taking in the sights, sounds and smells of nature is not only calming but has scientifically proven psychological and physiological benefits including a reduction in blood pressure, heart rate and stress hormone levels in the body with the addition of elevated mood, better sleep, improved memory and a nourished immune system.
The walks include an introduction to the practice including the benefits and main techniques used. Practices beneficial for wellbeing consist of breathing techniques, noticing techniques, meditative walking, pauses for botanical, ecological and herbalism chats (both native and non-native) and the sharing of knowledge. The walk will end with a cuppa made from some of the delicious herbs and plants we find along the way accompanied by a yummy treat.
