Event description

Join award-winning author Inga Simpson for an inspiring day gaining a stronger sense of nature writing and building a practical toolkit to achieve your creative goals. With the backdrop of the Weddin Mountains and stunning natural bushland surrounding Patina Gallery, we hope participants leave motivated to write a nature-inspired bestseller!

The nature writing course is great for both fiction and non-fiction writers at any skill level who have a love for the natural world. You will explore techniques to vividly portray landscapes, flora, and fauna for your readers, covering topics such as: expressive description, the effective use of emotion, and the significance of storytelling. Additionally, you will examine themes like anthropomorphism, the relationship between culture and nature, and the hurdles of conveying an environmental message in your writing.

Led by author Inga Simpson, the course combines instruction, inspiring examples of nature writing, and practical writing exercises, providing ample opportunities for group discussions. By the end of the course, you will have a deeper understanding of nature writing—both historical and contemporary, as well as Australian and international—and a practical toolkit for expressing your passion for nature through your writing.

The workshop will be hosted at Patina Gallery by local artist Kathleen McCue. The gallery is nestled into the surrounding bushland, with stunning views of the Weddin Mountains. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
