Event description

We are thrilled to be back hosting Forum events.

To kick off this years Forum program, we will look at a topic relevant to many players at any stage of their kink journey: Navigating the Kink Community. Whether you're curious about the community, just taking your first steps, been playing for years, or are a returning player we are sure you'll find this event a great source of inspiration and education.

There is no denying we play in a complex sub-culture, and getting from point A to point B isn't always easy. Add to this the usual sub-cultural politics, the difference between online and offline relationships, general gatekeeping, and the various standards of etiquette and expectations and the path can seem confusing and sometimes overwhelming. So let's get together and explore the ways we can successfully navigate the kink community while minimising obstacles and keeping our path clear.

For this Forum we have gathered a range of players on very different paths who've all found themselves confronted by various blocks and found a way around, through, or over them. Using the lived experience of our panelists we will examine how they've successfully navigated the journey, and also discuss some of the blocks they've encountered, be they personal or established by individuals or groups within the wider community.

Some of the topics we will explore are:

Common Obstacles:

- identifying and avoiding red flags
- dealing with frenzy
- finding community

The Online World:

- empowering yourself via social media
- making safe connections
- dealing with negative feedback

The Offline World:
- finding the right event for you
- discovering your people
- staying 'in' or coming 'out'

Problem Solving:

- identifying potential problems
- handling difficult conversations
- goal-setting for problem resolution

This event will be discussion-based, but attendees will be welcome to interact during the Q&A section. You are welcome to take notes, but please BYO notebook and pen. For more information on our panelists you can check out their social media profiles and keep an eye on Studio of Secrets socials for more panelist bios and introductions.

Our Forum events will be held every two months and will cover a range of topics. We will have a panel of three people, all with a rich experience on the topic at hand. The Forum itself will run as a panel interview facilitated by MisKnickers with time put aside for audience Q&A. Our next Forum event will be on April 9th where we will explore Boundaries and their importance in consent and negotiation. More details coming soon.
