Navigating Trauma: Youth & Healing
Event description
Join us this WA Youth Week for a healing group and panel session!
This is a 2 part event, the first session is a healing group for victim-survivors of domestic, family or sexual violence under the age of 30. The 2nd part is a panel session which is open to everyone, no matter your age!
Healing Through Art: Pot Painting & Emotional Processing
Join us for a creative and supportive healing group designed for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. This session will focus on painting pot plants as a therapeutic activity while engaging in open conversations about processing emotions after trauma.
Through art, we will explore healthy ways to navigate feelings of anger, grief, and healing, fostering a sense of empowerment and community. The group provides a safe, judgment-free space where survivors can express themselves, connect with others, and find new ways to nurture their healing journey. All materials will be provided. No artistic experience necessary, just a willingness to engage and heal.
Panel Session
This panel will explore the journey of trauma and recovery for young people who have experienced domestic violence (DV) and sexual assault (SA). It will provide insight into the challenges young survivors face, the support they need, and the ways in which advocacy and community action can create safer spaces for healing. The panel will also highlight how young people can be meaningfully included in projects and advocacy efforts to drive change. Additionally, it will offer guidance for parents and caregivers on how to support a young person navigating the impacts of trauma.
Panel Description:
Navigating Trauma: Youth & Healing is a dedicated panel discussion for young people, advocates, and caregivers to engage in open and honest conversations about trauma recovery, support systems, and the role of advocacy in healing.
For young survivors, this panel will offer insights into navigating the complexities of trauma, finding support, and using lived experience to create change. We will discuss ways to ensure young people have a voice in projects and advocacy efforts, shaping a future that priorities their safety and well-being.
For parents and caregivers, this panel will provide practical guidance on recognising trauma responses, creating safe spaces for disclosure, and offering meaningful support without reinforcing shame or isolation. Experts and lived-experience advocates will share strategies to foster open communication, validation, and empowerment for young survivors.
Whether you are a young person on your own healing journey, an advocate looking to amplify survivor voices, or a parent seeking to better support your child, this panel will provide valuable perspectives and practical tools for collective healing.
