NCAHA Hubs occur the last Tuesday of every second month with the purpose of supporting regional allied health professionals to network and address issues relevant to their practice. Please note special day for this hub - Wednesday 31 August.

Join us on Wed 31 August as we discuss: Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA) and Culturally Responsive Allied Health Services 

Session Summary

Our speakers tonight, Kylie Stothers and Paul Gibson, will provide us with background to IAHA, its vision for building the numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the allied health workforce, and key achievements since the inception of the organisation in 2009. They will also provide rationale and evidence base for improving the cultural awareness and responsiveness of health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and offer practical advice for allied health professionals in the private, NGO and government sectors to build their capacity for culturally safe and accessible service provision.


Speaker Profiles

About Kylie Stothers: Kylie is a Jawoyn woman born and raised in Katherine, Northern Territory. Kylie is a qualified social worker and Executive Director of Workforce Development at Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA), the national peak body representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander allied health professionals and students, and a lead facilitator of IAHA’s Cultural Responsiveness Training Program. Kylie is the co-Chair of the Northern Australian Research Network (NARN) and holds an Adjunct Senior Lecturer position with Murtupuni Centre for Rural & Remote Health, James Cook University and an Adjunct Lecturer position with Flinders University, Northern Territory.


About Paul Gibson: Paul  is a non-Indigenous man living and working on Ngunnawal and Ngambri land, in Canberra, and is the Executive Director Strategy and Partnerships at Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA). Since completing a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology) and Graduate Diploma in Public Health, Paul has a developed a strong background in health and education policy, including having worked in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce policy, including with Indigenous Allied Health Australia since 2018.
