Event description

Audience: Multidisciplinary teams which may include regional and school leaders, HOCs/HOSeS, speech pathologists, literacy support teachers; guidance officers.

Please note, this workshop is in HIGH DEMAND. We request that you ensure you have line management approval prior to registering. Please also advise us if you are not able to attend as soon as possible so we are able to offer the place to someone on the waitlist.

This two-day workshop is designed to build regional and school capability in a case management approach to improving educational, engagement and wellbeing outcomes for students with reading difficulties or disorders.

This workshop is designed to be responsive to the individual learning profile of a student identified as presenting with a significant word-level reading disorder (dyslexia) and will support school teams to identify evidence-based instructional targets, interventions and supporting strategies.

This workshop will explore:

  • a theoretical framework for written language development (SVR)
  • the protective and risk factors for persistent reading difficulties
  • leading and effectively working within a collaborative multidisciplinary team
  • how the underlying factors for reading disorders can be identified
  • implementing an evidence-based framework for case management and support for students with reading difficulties and disorders functional impact and reasonable adjustments
  • student voice, mental health and wellbeing.

Participants should bring:

  • notebook and pen
  • Data: For one student with dyslexia, please bring written language sample and a spelling test for analysis and planning. We will also look at any school-based data, guidance officer assessment, speech pathology assessment etc that will support identification and support for an individual student with significant word-level reading difficulties or disorder (dyslexia).
  • Food: Morning tea and lunch (mixed sandwich and wraps) will be provided. Please note that the kitchen is not certified allergy free. It is noted that there are cafes within walking distance.

Event location
The venue has not yet been booked, however, it will be a location on the Sunshine Coast. This information will be confirmed via email, so please keep an eye out.

Numbers are limited. Participants will be allocated places on a first come, first served basis. 

A confirmation advice will be issued by email prior to the event.

Please be advised that if you are registering for another person, ensure that you have forwarded relevant workshop details and the email confirmation to them.

Cancellations must be in writing and should be forwarded to the Reading Centre at readingandwritingdisorders@qed.qld.gov.au. 

These events do book up quickly, so please let us know if you cannot attend so that we can offer the place to another participant.
