NDIS & Your Child: Eligibility, Diagnosis & Functional Capacity
About This Session
NDIS eligibility and evidence requirements can be confusing — particularly when your child is approaching school age, turning 6, or you’re being asked for updated information about their disability and everyday support needs.
Join Playology Clinic for a free online information session for Victorian parents and carers about NDIS eligibility, diagnosis and functional capacity in children.
We’ll unpack what the NDIS means by functional capacity, why diagnosis and functional impact are different pieces of the picture, and the types of information families may be asked to provide.
Is your child approaching or over 6?
We’ll spend some time specifically on this transition.
For younger children, developmental delay can be relevant to NDIS access. As children get older, families may be contacted about their child’s ongoing eligibility and asked for evidence about their disability and how it affects their everyday functioning.
We’ll explain what this means, what families may be asked for, and how you can start preparing rather than waiting until you receive a request.

Your presenter
Teigan Leonard is a psychologist and Director of Playology Clinic. She has worked with children and families within the NDIS since its early rollout and has remained closely engaged as the scheme has evolved.
Teigan has given evidence to the Australian Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on the NDIS as part of its inquiry into the Early Childhood Early Intervention approach, and has continued to participate in NDIS consultations, forums and discussions as changes to the scheme have developed.
Alongside this broader involvement, Teigan continues to work directly with children and families across diagnostic assessment, functional assessment, therapy and NDIS reporting, bringing a practical understanding of what changes to the scheme mean for families day to day.
