About Simcha:

I am an oil painter.  I graduated from the Portland Art Museum School of Art in 1964.  I worked for many years at the old Jewish Community teaching art to both adults and children and then took on the Director of Cultural Arts when Mittleman Center opened.
In addition to art, I love working in the outdoors.  I have worked as a sea kayaking guide in northern Canada and served as a crew member on the beautiful schooner, Adventuress out of Seattle.  Much of my art is influenced by those experiences.  I have also spent a good deal of time in Israel and love to paint the places I have visited and often include verses from the Torah or Haftarah in Hebrew into those paintings.  I also love doing crafts such as needle felting and beadwork.
