Description

Neighbourliness for Resilience
An online Co-Navigation workshop for ecovillagers and community builders

How might neighbourliness help your community become more resilient to a situation you care deeply about?

For roughly 12,000 years, the Holocene’s relatively stable climate supported the flourishing of human societies. Now, as our species breaches multiple planetary boundaries, we are moving out of that stability into a time of growing disruption and uncertainty. These changes are reshaping the conditions our communities rely on.

Co-Navigation is a way of finding our way together, locally, from deeper than the civilisational norms that led us here. It starts with a simple idea: when what is “normal” in our wider culture is making us sick, we can gather around situations we care about and wonder together, with compassion, about what is really happening. Doing this can show what is yours, mine and ours to bring.

  • Who it’s for: Ecovillagers, community builders and anyone working to strengthen resilience in their community or neighbourhood

  • Facilitator: Markus Feenstra (From Deep Transition & Earthsong Eco-neighbourhood)

  • Organised by the Global Ecovillage Network Oceania & Asia (GENOA), in collaboration with Earthsong Eco-Neighbourhood and the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN).

  • Date & time: Saturday 19 December 2026, 06:00–08:00 UTC (Check the time where you are)
    7:00pm New Zealand, 5:00pm Sydney/Melbourne, 1:00pm Bangkok/Jakarta, 11:30am India, 7:00am Central Europe

What you will experience

You’ll bring one real situation from your ecovillage, community or neighbourhood and explore it in small groups:

  1. Choose a situation your community needs to become more resilient to.

  2. Explore neighbourliness: which forms of connection and care might help.

  3. Notice places to intervene using a leverage-points lens: where a small shift could change the wider pattern.

This is an interactive workshop. It will not be recorded. The harvest from the session will be anonymised and shared only with participants.

Registering for this workshop, you will also get access to a 20-minute documentary on Neighbourliness by Earthsong Eco-Neighbourhood, a cohousing ecovillage in West Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. The documentary will be shared a week ahead so you can watch it before the workshop.

Contribution

We offer this workshop in the spirit of giftivism and abundance. Please give what feels right for you. Suggested sliding scale of 10-50 AUD.

No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Every contribution goes to honouring the facilitator’s work.
