Neolithc Weave.....Basket Weaving Workshop

Event description

Neolithic / Burkina / continuous braiding is an ancient technique that has been widely used in Europe and has started to grow in popularity in Australia.

It has an interesting relationship to the techniques of the islander weavers.....where all the material is both structure and weaver. This is so different to many of the other European techniques.

Zimmi’s clear, step by step guidance will simplify this respected ancestral technique, so that you will walk away with a beautiful basket.

With over 25 years experience of making, exhibiting and teaching basketry and fibre art Zimmi has a wealth of knowledge on Australian natural fibre basketry.

Her teaching techniques are flexible and broad, speaking to each students individual way of learning.  Zimmi will breakdown each stage of the making process so that students can work methodological or experimentally through the the basket. Zimmi will also share her knowledge of the history of Australian basketry, terminology and ethics.

All materials and equipment will be supplied….what you will learn will allow you to go out and forage for yourselves from very easy to find materials.
