Got what it takes to be Chinatown’s singing superstar?
Grab the mic, hit the stage, and battle it out for the ultimate title: the first-ever Chinatown Idol!
This is a fun, family-friendly event for singers of all ages, skill levels and genres.
Whether you like spitting disses like Kendrick, channelling your inner Swiftie, jopping to k-pop classics, or belting classic 70s Chinese ballads (Teresa Teng fans, where you at?), the stage is yours!
🔥 Hosted by the hilarious comedienne Wandi (@dededeerdeer) to keep the laughs going between sets.
🎖 Winners determined by a panel of lighthearted judges, the audience and you! So invite all your friends and groupies to cheer you on!
🏆 Awesome prizes for winners and runner-ups! Plus goodies and snacks for all attendees courtesy of our amazing Chinatown community. Stay tuned for the prize reveal 👀
Come for a night of singing, then wander the Friday Chinatown Night Markets, all in the Neon Playground.

For competitors:
- Spots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you can no longer participate, we kindly ask that you cancel your ticket to give someone else the chance to shine.
- Open to all ages, skill levels, and languages! The sky (or the karaoke machine) is your limit.
- You will receive performance details closer to the event.
For spectators:
- Register for a General Admission ticket to secure your spot. Walk-ins are also welcome so bring your friends!

About Neon Playground - @neonplaygroundsyd
Sydney's largest Asian-Australia cultural arts festival. An explosion of neon lights, art installations, music and food in Chinatown and Haymarket, kicking off from 15 March to 6 April 2025.

About Wandi - @dededeerdeer
Wandi is a stand-up comedian originally from Hebei, China, now based in Sydney. She was a NSW Finalist in RAW Comedy 2022 and won the JOKE OFF Comedy Competition the same year.
In 2023, Wandi debuted her solo show Rebellious Chinese Daughter. She has performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival, and Sydney Mardi Gras’ Laugh Out Proud.
