Event description

Join Paul Donatiu on an exciting opportunity to expand your local flora knowledge and identification skills. This 3 hour session is best suited for individuals with some background in ecology or plant identification and will include a threatened flora species presentation followed by a threatened plant survey through one area within Nerang National Park. With over 1400 threatened species in Australia it is important to identify threatened species to provide valuable data for their protection. Nerang National Park has a variety of ecosystems that support threatened flora species such as the Richmond Birdwing vine Pararistolochia praevenosa, slender milkvine Leichhardtia coronataand the native guava Rhodomyrtus psidioides.

As well as connecting with nature, connecting with other people, and expanding your botany skills, your participation in this survey will help contribute to conservation research that is making a difference. Data collected will help scientists to better understand plant biodiversity, ecosystem health, and identify threatened species.

Attendees are encouraged to download the free iNaturalist app prior to the survey and join the Friends of Nerang National Park iNaturalist Project which can be found here.

This event is proudly supported by a Community Sustainability Action Grant from the Queensland Government.
