Nerd Nite #1
Description
Singapore, it's finally happening. Nerd Nite has landed.
Three talks. One spot. Zero chill. All nerd.
Born in New York and now hosted in more than 100 cities around the world, Nerd Nite is a monthly event where people share the things they're unapologetically obsessed with. No lectures. No panels. Just three fascinating humans, 20-minute talks, and a room full of curious strangers enjoying a drink together.
Whether you're into science, history, art, psychology, niche hobbies, or delightfully obscure rabbit holes, Nerd Nite is for anyone who loves learning something unexpected.
Date: Wednesday, 23 September
Venue: 462 Serangoon Rd, #02-00, Singapore 218141

Our first speakers
🎬 Shane
Film Posters: More Than Movie Ads
Ever wondered why vintage movie posters look so different from today's? Or why collectors obsess over them?
Historian and film poster collector Shane takes us through the fascinating world of original cinema posters (from the 1940s to today) exploring how they reflect changing cultures, filmmaking, and graphic design. Better yet, he'll be bringing pieces from his personal collection for a rare chance to see these works up close.
Shane holds a Master's in War Studies from King's College London and has spent years collecting original film posters from around the world.
🎨 Keith
Synaesthesia
What if your senses weren't separate?
Keith explores how music, colour, taste, texture and creativity can become deeply connected, and how developing our senses can make us better artists, makers and observers of the world.
Drawing from years spent exploring music, visual art and specialty coffee, this talk is an invitation to experience creativity in a completely different way.
🍷 Alicia
How to Wine 101
What if wine was more accessible?
For anyone who's ever stared at a wine list and had absolutely no idea what to order. Anyone who's been handed a wine list at a work dinner and went "uhm red wine". Anyone who thinks orange wine is made from oranges.
With 5 years in the spirits industry, WSET certificate and Rioja Diploma, Alicia is just here to teach you that tasting wine is not just "mmm, I taste red wine".
Come nerd out with us.
Bring your curiosity, grab a drink, and kick off the night with a quiz for a chance to win a mystery prize.
Then settle in for three talks that'll leave you saying, "Huh... I never knew that."
You don't need to be an expert. Just come curious.
Be there. Be square.
FAQs
- Is food provided?
Nope. Grab food before you come, or bring your own food to eat during doors open from 7–7:30pm.
Canned drinks / bottled beers are included in your ticket and available for purchase too.
- What’s the space like?
Think cosy lecture room, not conference hall. Seating will be lecture-style, and you’ll be holding your own drink while you listen. Come comfy and be ready to seat near a fellow nerd.
- Can I present or volunteer?
100%. If you have something niche, oddly specific, deeply researched, or just something you can’t stop talking about, we want to hear it. Drop us your links / pitch and we’ll take a look.
