Nerd Nite is fun-yet-informative lectures at a bar. It's like TED Talks...but with beer.
We all know that learning is more fun when you’re drinking with friends and colleagues. Thus, Nerd Nite is a monthly event held in more than 100 cities across the globe during which several folks give 20-minute fun-yet-informative and easily accessible presentations across all disciplines – while the audience drinks along.

PRESENTATION #1: An Unromantic History of Marriage
By Allison Raskin
Summary: If there is one institution that has had a major rebrand in recent years, it's marriage. Marriages of today are seen as a source of personal fulfillment, status, and an opportunity to find the love of your life. Marriages of old…not so much. Allison Raskin, relationship coach and author of I Do (I Think): Conversations About Modern Marriage, will deep-dive into the different phases of Western marriage and question whether it's something we even need anymore now that women can get their own credit cards.
Bio: Allison Raskin is a New York Times bestselling author, relationship coach, and mental health advocate. She cohosts the podcast Starter Marriage with her husband and has written two nonfiction books about the intersection of mental health and romantic relationships as well as to three novels. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Pepperdine University and a BFA in Screenwriting from USC.

Learn about foundational ways of understanding communication in stressful circumstances, setting boundaries, and apply these ideas to your own story of tabletop conflict to see what it's like to put these skills to the test.
Bio: Dr. James Poole is a licensed clinical psychologist who works from an integrative approach to provide individual, couples, and group therapy. He works in private practice, focusing on social anxiety, communication skills, OCD, depression, recreational development, and nerd culture. He is geek certified in his clinical work and works as an applied rpg provider where he interweaves empirically validated therapy techniques into tabletop rpgs. As The Relational Nerd, he presents talks, panels, and workshops at conventions and game stores, working with people on developing community and healthier communication skills at the gaming table.
PRESENTATION #3: The Magic of Play: Insight into the World of Magic Design

Summary: Past Nerd Nite speaker and acclaimed Los Angeles magician Nathaniel Segal will present his new magic talk, “The Magic of Play: Insight into the World of Magic Design." Part lecture, part magic show, and part hands-on workshop, you will gain a peek behind the curtain of how he creates some of his strongest original magic. Designed to be both entertaining and informative, you will learn new secrets and unexpected ways of thinking. Be prepared to try something new and have fun!
Bio: Nathaniel Segal is a seasoned professional magician and consultant who spends as much time behind the scenes as he does in front of audiences. Featured on Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Masters of Illusion, Nathaniel has also served as a magic consultant for Trigg Watson’s AGT semifinal act, Jason Latimer’s Impossible Science program, as well as David Blaine's Las Vegas show. He currently has five residencies in the Los Angeles area.
