For this Nerd Nite San Diego Comic Con Special @nerdnitesd partnered with AAAS IF/THEN® Ambassadors program to bring you a special panel talk show with four talented women STEM professionals across a variety of industries who serve as high-profile role models for middle school girls. Also, we are hosting out-of-town Comic-Con presenters who are in town for SDCC - don't miss your chance to come chat with them live at NNSD CC Special!!This special extended event features two exclusive presentations by Erin Macdonald and a joint talk by Elizabeth Rega & Stuart Sumida. Both presentations will focus on the application of scientific knowledge to enhance the realism and credibility of creative media. Erin Macdonald - best known for her work as the science advisor for the Star Trek franchise - dives into how concepts from astrophysics and general relativity are used in Star Trek to play around with space and time. Elizabeth Rega, a professor of anatomy and Stuart Sumida, a biology professor and vertebrae paleontologist, will discuss how anthropology, anatomy and paleontology help make animated films and video games look and feel more realistic. Both talks highlight how important scientific principles are in making stories and visuals in entertainment more convincing! So - whether you’re curious about cloning dinosaurs from DNA strands, enjoy questioning the feasibility of science in the movies, or just want to learn about some of the coolest careers on earth, this event is for you.
