John Learn Presents:

The Gulf Between the Florida House, Florida Senate, and Governor DeSantis

During the (still not concluded!) 2025 State Legislative Session, we have seen an unprecedented level of disagreement between a legislature that previously had pledged obeisance to Gov. Ron DeSantis. These pronounced divisions have dramatically impacted the tenor of negotiations, leading to an extended session. From squabbles over tax cuts, the naming of a state mental health institution, to First Lady Casey DeSantis’ signature Hope Florida program, take a look behind the curtain (or inside the dumpster fire?) at what occurred and what to expect in a 2026 Gubernatorial election that’s already heating up.

John Learn is the government relations manager at BayCare Health System who leads the federal advocacy portfolio. Originally hailing from DUUUUVAL county, John disputes the notion that lobbyist is a “dirty word” and insists that if you want to watch the most accurate political television you should check out Veep. John has been at BayCare for almost 4 years, prior to that he has worked for a state senator and on a congressional campaign in fundraising. He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and proudly using his political science degree. He is currently pursuing an MBA and vows to never run for political office.

Jesse Miller Presents:

The Miseducation of Nice Girls (and why The Gender Confidence Gap Sucks for Everyone)

Science! How our amazing girl brains were used against us in a culture that prioritizes raising nice girls who are seen and not heard, from playground drama to mid-life therapy couches everywhere. Let's reclaim our power by unpacking the Gender Confidence Gap and how it hurts everyone. We'll explore creating safer, braver spaces where girls can fail- faster, fearlessly, and fabulously! How everyone in our community can show up for this important work and how it benefits us all in the end. (Supported by data, graphics, and absurd memes.)

Jesse Miller was born annoyed at the patriarchy and eventually figured out how to turn that into a career. She’s the director of Girls Rock St. Pete, a volunteer-powered movement amplifying girls, women, and gender-expansive voices through music, mentorship, and justice. For 25 years, Jesse has worked where art meets advocacy, creating platforms for those too often unheard. She spent 15 years leading the Heart Gallery of Tampa, championing foster youth in their search for permanence and possibility. Her work has caught the eye of The Today Show, Oprah, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and earned honors from Lightning Community Heroes and Businesswoman of the Year

Linsey Grove Presents:

Total Fecal: What Makes Number Two First in Public Health

No shit is little in public health -- from sewer infrastructure to tracking E. coli outbreaks, excrement is everywhere. We will talk about the history of feces management, its use in tracking disease, and even how it can be transplanted to improve our gut flora. Doo-doo join me for a funny, poignant history of a topic that we usually flush, wipe away, and turn our noses up at: poop.

Dr. Linsey Grove is a public health practitioner and entrepreneur living here in St. Pete. She co-owns The Hypatia Collaborative, a co-op of consultants and small businesses that build capacity for nonprofits. Dr. Grove also co-hosts a public health podcast called Viral and is the lead singer for Fine Line. When she's not on stage, she is either cuddling with her cats, Luna and Neville, or freediving in one of Florida's many springs.
