Netmaking: From the Palaeolithic to the present:

Explore the development of this ancient craft and learn to work flat nets and round starts for net bags. This is one craft that quite genuinely fits into any dateline from the deepest memories to modern day.

We start the session with a whistlestop tour through the incredibly long history and archaeology of netmaking, a topic which is the focus for Sally’s next book. We will then get to grips with the knots required before learning how to set up both square nets and round version for net bags. Most people go home with a sample of square netting and a net bag in progress.

Each participant gets a custom made beechwood shuttle and gauge stick, a professionally printed booklet of class notes, and enough pure linen twine for the class and to finish their bag.
