    AN OPEN WEBINAR HOSTED BY HALAD TO HEALTH AUS 🇦🇺 & PHILS 🇵🇭


    In the Philippines, 1 in 5 people suffer from some form of a mental health disorder, with rates of teenage depression rising so fast... the Philippines now records the highest number of depression cases in all of South East Asia 🌎

    To tackle the rising rates of teen depression in the province of Bukidnon, Halad to Health Philippines has been running a series of Open Classrooms to explain what depression is, what it looks like and how we can be more aware if we're not looking okay.

    In this Open Webinar, we'll be uncovering why depression occurs and the neuroscience behind the condition.

    MEET OUR SPEAKERS


    Francis Miral
    (Former Valencia National High School Student Supreme Vice President)


    Francis is one of the team members of Halad to Health Philippines and the former Vice President of Supreme Student Government of Valencia National High School, one of the schools where Halad to Health conducts free health education lessons, with a senior student population of over 7000 students.

    His dream is to become a Clinical Psychologist to help everyone he can, who has a mental illness, so that we can live in a society with less cases of suicide, and everyone smiles wholeheartedly. 

    Francis will be joining the Webinar to share what depression in rural Philippines looks like for teens who may not be able to access mental health services in the region.


    Dr Elena Pozzi
    (PhD, University of Melbourne)
    After recently completing her PhD degree at the University of Melbourne, Dr Elena Pozzi is  now working as a postdoctoral research fellow. Her research focuses on the relationship between childhood experiences, brain development and mental health. In particular her research hopes to understand early risk factors for depression that can be targeted with prevention strategies. 

    Dr Elena Pozzi will be joining the Webinar to share what the most recent research in neuroscience into says about why depression occurs.

    Emma Launder
    (BBiomedSci Neuroscience Major)
    Emma is an Operations team member at Halad to Health and was a member of the second cohort of the Summer 2020 mission. Emma is currently in her final year of the Bachelor of Biomedicine (Neuroscience Major) at the University of Melbourne.

    Emma will be hosting the Webinar and provide context for all Australian and Filipino participants joining.
