New North Concert 14: Death Feathers [Donna Coleman / Svitak / April Guest]
Event description
New North Concert 14: Death Feathers
New North's first show at the wonderful Eleventh Hour Theatre features three remarkable acts working with acoustic and processed sound.
DONNA COLEMAN presents Death Feathers
Inspired by the death poems composed by Japanese monks in the moments before their transmogrification to the Next Life, Donna Coleman weaves sounds uttered by stroked strings and mouthed words into a sonic landscape evocative of her father’s recent journey Home and the annular solar eclipse. Pitch and gestural source elements created in collaboration with Allan Walker; Japanese kanji interpretation and pronunciation coach, Nicholas Hoszko.
SVITAK
Svitak's sound is characterized by sustained tension, drawing on a sense of loss, longing, and nostalgia to create a distinctive and deeply haunting atmosphere. Featuring Adrianna Svitak on piano, violin, vocals, and electronics with Hugh Stuckey on guitar and electronics.
APRIL GUEST
April blends the boundaries between harmony and timbre, improvising ambient soundscapes by sampling her voice realising them through microtonal scales.
