A Lesbian/Queer New Years Gatho (Naarm)
Event description
Welcome back to Third Rodeo's first event of the year, A Lesbian/Queer New Years Gathering. A hot, delightful, social networking function to get back into the swing of things. On this fine Sunday afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to reconnect with old mates and discover new flames. Come along and meet your class of 2025 and set the tone for the year ahead. To yarn, flirt, connect - it's a space for whatever you want it to be. And I know this year is going to be a memorable one.
Third Rodeo will be channelling its theme of, 'Waxflowers and Whispers' (You can read more on our website). We follow the narrative of five Lesbians/Queers, Daisy, Koa, Piper, Aubrey and Bowie that meet at this very gathering, each one with a unique journey ahead.
The Australian summer bathed the courtyard in a warm embrace, where sunlight flickered through, kissing the dearest banksias. A gentle breeze teased the fabric of hanging lanterns. The atmosphere buzzed with chatter and soft music, mingling like a sweet perfume and enticing those who wandered into the scene.
Daisy’s entrance was the embodiment of summer itself. With her sun-kissed curls, she twirled into the party wearing a flowy flounce skirt adorned with tiny flowers, each step leaving a whisper of floral dreams in her wake. Her laughter rang out like a golden siren call, drawing many glances around the yard.
Koa, sinking into an oversized, faded bean bag, caught a glimpse of Daisy. In contrast, Koa exuded a casual coolness, her cherry cola hair spilling down their shoulders and a camera hanging around her neck, ready to capture the moments unfolding. They chimed back into her friends’ conversation, only to pause again as she felt an undeniable shift with Daisy’s arrival.
Piper, the practical one of the group, slipped in quietly, her glasses perched precariously on her nose. She had dressed comfortably in a stripped tee tucked into her double-pleated twill shorts. She was there out of curiosity, wondering if her sensible heart might find something unexpected among the revelry.
Aubrey danced at the edge of the crowd, enveloped by the scent of coconut sunscreen and colourful bangles that jingled with every movement. When Piper caught her eye, it ignited an unexpected draw of companionship.
Finally, Bowie, with their hair short, tousled just right and an open linen shirt, twirled a flower between their fingers, choosing to walk instead of rush into the crowd, savouring the summer warmth.
The five of them appeared as strangers gathered at the same place for different reasons: Daisy seeking romance, Koa aiming to capture beauty, Piper pursuing curiosity, Aubrey chasing the thrill, and Bowie intending to stir things up. Unbeknownst to them, the threads of their lives were about to cross in unexpected ways, woven together through friendship, connection, and self-discovery. Individually, they all looked at their given cards and simultaneously muttered, 'Group - Blue?'

Third Rodeo Background
At Third Rodeo, we believe in creating a warm and inviting space for the Lesbian and Queer community to thrive. Our events are designed specifically for individuals in their 20s and up, providing a dedicated environment where you can make meaningful connections.
Our philosophy is simple. We are your Third home.
Whether you come solo or with friends, or if its your First or Third Rodeo, you’ll find our atmosphere relaxed, charming, and just a little bit cheeky! We’re all about bringing people together, and we’re thrilled to have hosted successful events in Naarm/Melbourne, Eora/Sydney, and Meanjin/Brisbane. Many of my own beautiful queer friendships have blossomed from these gatherings, and I can’t wait for you to experience the same.
I know it can be intimidating to show up alone, but trust me—you’re not alone in that feeling. Everyone is here for the same reason: to connect and find their community. You’ll quickly find that our crowd is warm, friendly, and welcoming!
Thank you for supporting our Lesbian/Non-Binary led small business. Your encouragement means the world to us, and I adore each and every one of you. I can’t wait to see you at our next event!
