Jamie Holmes Quartet — New York Jazz / Melbourne
Contemporary Jazz in Dialogue
Melbourne/Naarm saxophonist and composer Jamie Holmes brings his quartet to acidity. for an evening exploring the meeting point between the evolving language of contemporary New York jazz and an Australian musical identity.
Featuring music by Jamie’s influences including Immanuel Wilkins and Chris Potter, alongside his own original compositions, the quartet moves through intricate rhythmic structures, rich harmonic language and lyrical melodies — all grounded in improvisation and a deep connection to the jazz tradition.
Jamie is an emerging saxophonist, composer and arranger currently studying Jazz & Improvisation at the Melbourne Conservatorium. He performs regularly across Melbourne’s contemporary and traditional jazz scenes, with appearances at venues including Paris Cat Jazz Club, The Night Cat, Howler and JazzLab, and has studied with leading Australian musicians including Carl Mackey, Angela Davis and Mat Jodrell.
This performance marks the debut of Jamie’s latest quartet project.
