Event description

The New Zealand Chamber soloists are emerging from the pandemic restrictions with a multitude of concerts commencing with their return to the Pah. Their programme contains two Czech masterworks and a hidden little gem that contrast three important voices representing their homeland, folk music traditions and acceptance into the international arena. Dvořák's F minor Trio, written in 1883, is a huge work that tips his hat to the influence of his friend and mentor Brahms, while expressing his natural flair for melody and passion for Czech folk music. The Violin Sonata written by Janacek between 1914 and 1921, also contains his unique treatment of folk melodies, but brings his intimate understanding of the human voice into his melodic inventions.  The tensions regarding WW1 which had just commenced are also evident. But with Janacek, you always hear the voice of innocence interwoven with the intensity and stresses of life. And to start off the concert the trio will play the neglected Trio in D minor by Martinu, which is full of fun and whimsy while also containing music that expresses deep emotions regarding the profundity of separation and war.
