Newtown Sydney, Screening Love Letter to the Unseen
Description
LOVE LETTER TO THE UNSEEN
Join Environment Tasmania and SIX for this intimate screening event, at Dendy Cinema (Newtown) - in Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's electorate.
The Prime Minister will be making changes to our national environment laws in the coming months which affect all our beautiful wildlife, including the incredible Maugean Skate. Now is the time for our community to come together to learn, connect & act!
Through this film, follow youth conservationist Spencer Hitchen on his journey to understand the imminent threats to the endangered Maugean Skate and the intrinsic beauty of a species that exists both in the real world and in the imaginations of its supporters.
Macquarie Harbour, Tasmania, the sole remaining home of the Maugean skate, is at risk, but there’s still time to act.
A Land and Sea for All film directed by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Josh “Bones” Murphy (ARTIFISHAL, THE SCALE OF HOPE, YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT) made in partnership with Environment Tasmania, Holdfast Collective, Rauch Foundation, and Reichstein Foundation.
Featuring Palawa man Lyndon O’Neil, artist Wendy Edwards, First Dog on the Moon, Andrew Wilkie MP, Youth conservationist Spencer Hitchen and more.
The 60-million-year-old Maugean skate has been around since the time of the dinosaurs. Discovered only in 1988, the skate now faces a ‘very high’ risk of extinction.
Join us! Together we can SAVE THE SKATE and DEMAND NO NEW EXTINCTIONS.
Screened in association with Environment Tasmania and SIX.
The film will be followed by a short Q&A with:
Jessica Coughlan, Senior Skate Campaigner at Environment Tasmania and the only campaigner in the world whose sole role is focused on saving the Skate!
Adam Verwey, co-founder and CEO of Australia's only ethical share trading platform SIX who are partnering with Environment Tasmania to put shareholder pressure on the companies sourcing salmon from the Skate's only home.
Lyndon O'Neil, Palawa man and First Nations cultural educator, who you'll also see in the film!
Dr Leonardo Guida, Shark Conservation Manager at the Australian Marine Conservation Society and member of National Maugean Skate Recovery Team.
