Join Nexus Emergency Vet Hospital for an evening of practical surgical CPD with specialist surgeon Dr Charles Kuntz, bringing together Adelaide’s veterinary community for great education, good food and a little fun.

Designed with the general practitioner in mind, this evening is all about making better surgical decisions in everyday small-animal practice — with practical approaches you can take straight back to the clinic.

What you’ll learn

Across two practical, case-based sessions, Charles will explore the decisions that can make all the difference before, during and after surgery.

You’ll learn how to:

• Approach common skin and subcutaneous masses — including when to aspirate, biopsy, stage, excise or refer

• Plan tumour resections with appropriate margins, fascial planes and reconstruction in mind

• Perform a systematic and productive abdominal exploratory without overlooking important pathology

• Recognise intraoperative findings that should change your surgical plan

• Make confident decisions about when to proceed, modify your approach, biopsy or seek specialist assistance

• Avoid common surgical decisions that can make subsequent definitive treatment more difficult

Expect real clinical cases, diagnostic and operative images, surgical video and plenty of practical decision-making— not just surgical theory.

Meet Dr Charles Kuntz

Dr Charles Kuntz is a specialist small animal surgeon, Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and Founding Fellow of Surgical Oncology.

With more than 35 years in referral practice, Charles has performed thousands of complex surgical procedures, with particular interests in surgical oncology, orthopaedics, neurosurgery and reconstructive surgery.

He is also the founder of VetDojo, where his practical and accessible approach to surgical education has built an online community of more than 80,000 subscribers.

There will also be time for questions during the evening.

Make a night of it

This isn’t your typical CPD venue! We’re taking over the Wallis Theatre for the evening, with a light dinner before settling into the cinema with popcorn and soft drinks for the presentations.

Before the event, guests will also have the opportunity to join us for an optional behind-the-scenes tour of Nexus Emergency Vet Hospital. Tours will run in small, pre-booked groups between 5:30–6:30 pm before guests make their way to the theatre.

Who’s invited?

Everyone in the veterinary community!

Veterinarians, veterinary nurses and technicians, interns and veterinary students are all welcome.

While the CPD is designed primarily with general-practice veterinarians in mind, nurses and technicians will also get plenty from the sessions and will have the opportunity to meet and chat with the Nexus nursing team throughout the evening.
