No Genre, All Vibes Live - Art Pleasley & Qing Mibilahm
Event description
ART PLEASLEY
Longtime staple of the Rainbow Region underground ART PLEASLEY crafts a particularly spicy blend of flavours and sounds sourced from home and across the planet. Touring and recording in all manner of ways since 15, his inimitable stage presence feels like a therapy session and a stadium show at the same time.
From emptying ashtrays as an assistant at Studios 301 to playing any kind of live show you can imagine, there’s no corner of the music industry he hasn’t traversed and studied. Currently a member of Lennox Head post-punk quintet TV MISERY and a co-writer/hypeman/keyboardist for Lismore legend MR RHODES, genre is merely a serving suggestion to him.
As comfortable crooning behind a piano or guitar as wailing over his lushly layered productions from a speaker-tower, he’s a vocalist/multi-instrumentalist, DJ and mentor with formidable backgrounds in audio engineering and theatrical performance.
ART PLEASLEY: a futurist musical polymath with respect for the classics and soul to spare. Equal parts Brechtian theatre, drag show, punk rock and secular gospel service, Art Pleasley is not to be missed. A wild performer, producer and songwriter with foundations rooted as deeply in alternative ’90s pop as New Orleans Funk/Soul, hip hop, and Broadway pomp, a cathartic emotional spectacle is guaranteed.
QING MIBILAHM
Qing Mibilahm (pronounced “King Mi-bi-laam”) is an artist whose music flows from the heart of his Bundjalung heritage and speaks to the interconnectedness of all cultures and identities. Known by his artistic name Mibilahm, which translates to "sweetheart" or "lover" in the Bundjalung language, Benja Roberts weaves together the warmth and resilience of his ancestors' traditions with his unique musical voice. Drawing inspiration from his spiritual connection to the land and the Wiabul, Githabal, and Minjungbal/Coodginburra language groups, his art is a powerful reflection of cultural pride, love, and strength.
As a singer, songwriter, and dedicated advocate for both First Nations and LGBTQIA+ communities, Benja blends soul, R&B, and disco to create music that is as inclusive as it is captivating. His journey in the Northern NSW and South East Queensland music scene spans over a decade, where he has graced stages as both a lead and backing vocalist in various bands.
In 2023, Benja further honed his craft by completing a Bachelor in Songwriting and Production at SAE Byron Bay Campus. In 2024 Benja performed on the main stage at the Queer Ball, Goldy’s Arvo Disco, and Gold Coast Pride, Additionally, he was the main singer at Goldy's Berlin show at HOTA, further cementing his status as a rising star.
Shortly after, Benja took a bold step forward by founding and fronting The Deadly Good, a collective that embodies rebellion, joy, and empowerment. As a sanctuary for LGBTQIA+ and First Nations artists, The Deadly Good serves as a platform for visibility and self-expression, creating space for the voices of those often marginalised within the music industry.
Their dedication to inclusivity is evident in the powerful performances at
events such as Goldy’s Jazz Night @ HOTA and Goldy’s Big Gay Day @ Hairy Mary’s. For Benja, music is not just a form of artistic expression—it's a medium for cultural and social transformation. With every song, he strives to break down barriers and celebrate the beauty of diversity. Through his work, Qing Mibilahm continues to uplift and empower those voices that need to be heard, creating art that speaks to the heart of humanity.
