Event description

Winner: Best Documentary and Audience Awards - 74th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale)

Winner: Best Documentary Feature Film - 97th Academy Awards (Oscars)

No Other Land is 2024’s most acclaimed documentary. Directed by a Palestinian-Israeli filmmaking collective, No Other Land tracks the occupation and destruction of Masafer Yatta, a mountainous region in the Occupied West Bank by the Israeli occupation.

The film sparked controversy at the Berlinale in February 2024 when Israeli co-director Yuval Abraham called for an end to German weapons shipments to Israel in his acceptance speech. This unsurprisingly prompted both criticism from German politicians and death threats from others.

In February 2025, No Other Land director Basel Adra was beaten by Israeli settlers in the West Bank. A month later, director Hamdan Ballal was also attacked by Israeli settlers then snatched from an ambulance by Israeli Defense Forces soldiers who struck his head with rifle butts. Ballal was released the next day with his head wounds untreated.

No Other Land, a co-production between Palestine and Norway, is a sobering yet inspiring tale of Palestinian resistance under occupation.

No Other Land will be screened at the Leigh Memorial Hall (Parramatta Community Uniting Church), 119 Macquarie Street, Parramatta on Thursday May 8, starting at 6.30pm. A light supper will be provided before the film starts at 7pm.

The night is raising funds to support both Palestinians in Gaza and Gazan refugees now residing in Western Sydney. Funds raised will be evenly shared between:

Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA has been working alongside its Palestinian partner organisation, the MA’AN Development Center, since 1989 to provide relief aid to the people of Gaza. The Hebron International Resource Network supports Palestinians living near illegal Israeli settlements in Hebron and the southern part of the West Bank. Palestinian Christians in Australia and the Western Sydney Community Centre are providing financial support to pay for accommodation and basic needs for families arriving from Gaza to Western Sydney.
