No Reading Book Club: ‘The Wellness Trap’ by Christy Harrison, RD
Description
Do you find yourself getting sucked into the wellness influencer vortex, looking for ways to ‘feel better’ and ‘be healthier’? Do you live with chronic illness and feel left behind by the health system? Do you feel skeptical about ‘wellness culture’ but don’t have time to read a whole book right now? Join our ‘No Reading Book Club’! Led by a registered dietician and counsellor, you’ll get their key takeaways from ‘The Wellness Trap: Break Free from Diet Culture, Disinformation, and Dubious Diagnoses, and Find Your True Well-Being’. Written by a dietician who specializes in eating disorder recovery, we’ll look at her take on modern wellness culture and how it stands in the way of true well-being.
You will learn more about:
· how wellness culture intersects with diet culture and beauty culture
· social determinants of health and how they shape our well-being
· how the wellness industry uses scare tactics and unverified claims to get us to spend
· practicing self-compassion when dealing with pain and shame
This workshop takes place online. You will be sent a Teams link in the reminder email sent prior to the session – you can join from any computer, tablet, or smartphone. You’re welcomed and encouraged to eat your lunch during the workshop!
