Professional Women’s Collective | Session 4

No Time to Pause: Perimenopause, Menopause & Working Life

Perimenopause and menopause often coincide with some of the most demanding and influential years of a woman’s professional life—yet the impact on working life is still not talked about enough.

In this session, Dr Alexandra Carey joins host Hannah Stevens for a candid and practical conversation about perimenopause, menopause and navigating this transition while managing the realities of work, leadership and life.

Dr Carey is a South Australian specialist gynaecologist with over 15 years’ experience. She holds a Master of Reproductive Medicine and completed an Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Fellowship in minimally invasive pelvic surgery. Dr Carey also trains the next generation of doctors through her role at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Adelaide.

We’ll explore what actually happens during perimenopause and menopause, the symptoms women may experience, and how these changes can affect confidence, wellbeing and working life.

Importantly, the conversation will also look at what women can do to better understand and manage this stage of life, as well as what workplaces and leaders can do to create more informed and supportive environments.

Grounded in medical expertise and practical discussion, this session aims to replace uncertainty with knowledge and create space for a conversation that many professional women are experiencing, but may not be having openly.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Better understand perimenopause and menopause and the changes that can occur.

  • Recognise common symptoms and how they may present in working life.

  • Understand the potential impact on wellbeing, confidence and professional life.

  • Explore practical approaches to navigating this transition at work.

  • Build greater awareness of how workplaces can better support women through perimenopause and menopause.
