WWCA Celebrates 40 Years – And We’re Throwing a Party Worth Talking About for the Next 40!

Forty years. Just take a moment to think about that.

When the WWCA first opened its doors, shoulder pads were respectable fashion, mobile phones were the size of paving slabs, and the internet was something that sounded like it belonged in a science fiction film. Since then, Whitechurch has seen fashions come and go, hairstyles rise and fall (sometimes literally), and enough stories, friendships, celebrations and community spirit to fill several lifetimes.

Now, as the WWCA celebrates its 40th anniversary, we’re marking this incredible milestone with a week of events, memories, laughter and celebration. And if there is one event you absolutely do not want to miss, it is our special night on Thursday 20th.

We are delighted to welcome home one of Whitechurch's most talented and entertaining daughters, Norma Sheahan, for what promises to be a hilarious and heartwarming evening.

Norma will unveil a brand-new show inspired by her formative years growing up in Whitechurch. Anyone who has ever lived here, visited here, got lost here, or been told a story by someone from here will find something to relate to. With her trademark wit and sharp observations, Norma will revisit the people, places and unforgettable moments that helped shape her journey from Whitechurch to stages and screens around the country.

Of course, no trip down memory lane would be complete without a soundtrack.

Joining Norma for the evening will be the legendary DJ Pat Dilworth, who will help transport us back to the glorious, unforgettable and occasionally questionable decade that was the 1990s. Expect classic tunes, nostalgia by the bucketload and enough memories to have you saying, "I haven't heard that song in years!" at least twenty times before the night is over.

Together, Norma and Pat will take us on a journey through a decade that gave us boy bands, dance floors, cassette tapes, denim jackets, questionable fashion choices and an unwavering belief that frosted tips were a good idea. Some of us survived the 90s with our dignity intact. Others have photographic evidence proving otherwise.

The evening begins with a drinks reception included in your ticket price, giving everyone the chance to gather, catch up with old friends, meet new ones and debate the truly important questions: Who had the best 90s hairstyle? Who spent the most time in the local disco? And who still owns a pair of bootcut jeans hidden somewhere in a wardrobe?

As the stories flow and the music starts, you'll be reminded why Whitechurch is such a special place. Every community has its characters, but Whitechurch has always had more than its fair share. The people who could never tell a short story. The neighbours who somehow knew everyone's business before they knew it themselves. The sporting heroes, the musicians, the volunteers, the local legends and the people whose names might not be on any plaque but whose contribution has helped build the community we know and love today.

The WWCA has been at the heart of that community spirit for four decades. It has hosted celebrations, meetings, performances, classes, fundraisers, victories, disappointments, reunions and countless cups of tea. It has provided a place where people come together, where friendships are formed and where memories are made.

This anniversary is not just about celebrating a building or an organisation. It is about celebrating the people who made it possible. The volunteers who gave their time, the committees who kept things moving, the supporters who turned up year after year and every single person who contributed to making the WWCA the thriving community hub it is today.

And what better way to celebrate than with an evening full of laughter?

Norma's unique ability to find humour in everyday life means nobody is safe—not the 90s, not Whitechurch and certainly not ourselves. Expect plenty of stories that will have you laughing, nodding in recognition and perhaps wondering if she somehow had a hidden camera following everyone around for the last few decades.

By the end of the night, you'll have laughed, reminisced, sung along to songs you swore you had forgotten and probably reconnected with people you haven't seen in years. You may even leave with a few new stories of your own.

One thing is certain: this will be one of those nights people talk about long after the final song has played.

Years from now, someone will inevitably say, "Do you remember the WWCA's 40th anniversary celebrations?" and those who were there will smile knowingly and reply, "Of course I do. It was some night."

So don't leave it until the last minute. Tickets are limited, and once they're gone, they're gone. The fear of missing out is real, and we can guarantee that hearing everyone else talk about how great the night was will not be nearly as enjoyable as being there yourself.

Come along, raise a glass, share a laugh, relive a few memories and help us celebrate forty remarkable years of the WWCA.

Here's to the last 40 years—and to the next 40.

Book early, bring your friends, and we'll see you on Thursday 20th for what promises to be a night to remember! 🎉🥂🎶
