North Coast Explorer with Port Bus to the North Coast

Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th May 2024

Tour Summary:

Welcome to our little sojourn to the North Coast NSW. It is our intention to take you to some out-of-the-way places that you see on signposts but never venture into. Sit back and enjoy this roller coaster ride of magnificent beaches, little friendly towns, good country food, comfortable accommodations, stories in abundance, and of course your Port Bus crew!!

Day 1: Port to Ballina   (M/T, L, D)                            Monday 28th May 24

We depart Port Macquarie Coach Terminal at 08:00 heading north to our morning tea stop on the banks of the Bellingen River at Mylestom. From here we bypass (no not the new bypass!) and head for Woolgoolga (Whoopi to the locals) headlands. Here we have great views of the Solitary Islands, Arrawarra headlands, Corindi Beach, and Red Rock.

Just around the corner is Wooli in the middle of the Yuraygir National Park. This is our next destination and our lunch stop at Emilio’s Bistro & Pizzeria in the Hotel. Our afternoon adventures take us into Minnie Waters, Tucabia, and Tynedale as we continue North. At Woodburn, our next point of exploration is Evans Head in the Broadwater National Park. We visit Razorback Lookout and then return to The Living Museum to peruse a lot of memorabilia from its days as a World War 11 airbase. Late afternoon we continue North to Ballina through Broadwater (sugar cane town) for our next 2-nights after a busy yet interesting day. Unpack and relax before dinner in the Motel.

Ballina Motor Inn | 2-nights

Day 2:   Byron Shire         (B, D)                          Tuesday 29th May 24

After a hearty breakfast, we are off exploring again for the day departing around 08:15. Lennox Head, Suffolk Park, and Byron Bay are first in our sights. We visit the Lighthouse here and have magnificent views from Australia’s most Easterly point on the Mainland. The next stop is at the family-owned Madura Tea Plantation on Clothiers Creek. Unfortunately, due to the impacts of Covid, we are unable to tour the premises however we will have time to browse their factory store. Our lunch (at our own expense) stop today is in the beautiful villages of Cabarita Beach / Bogangar. Lots of little cafes etc to choose from.

Our afternoon takes us inland to Murwillumbah and the village of Nimbin. There is time to enjoy the culture before we return via Lismore to our accommodation in Ballina.

Day 3: Ballina to Port      (B, L)                           Wednesday 30th May 24

After breakfast and checkout, we head for morning teat Casino. From Alstonville, we travel back through Lismore to join Summerland Way in NSW’s beef capital town, Casino. Traveling through Whiporie and the ferry town of Lawrence, we arrive in Grafton for a magnificent lunch at the Grafton District Services Club.

After lunch we travel through Glenreagh and Russell Crowe’s town of Nana Glen, following the Orara River to Coffs Harbour. Here we retrace our steps to Nambucca Service Centre for our afternoon comfort stop before returning to Port Macquarie after a truly magnificent experience on the North Coast.
