Syria's civil war began during the Arab Spring in 2011 as a peaceful uprising against the country's president, Bashar al-Assad. It has since escalated — shattering the lives of Syrians, destroying cities, straining global politics, and spurring diplomatic efforts that are constantly questioned as the world witnesses the horrors of ongoing warfare.Tom Bamforth has fifteen years’ experience in humanitarian leadership and development program management across more than 20 countries in Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, with Red Cross, NGOs, and UN organisations. He has worked in humanitarian coordination, operations management, humanitarian diplomacy, policy and advocacy. He has strong program cycle skills in design, monitoring & evaluation, reporting and financial management. His areas of thematic experience include humanitarian leadership & coordination, policy analysis, shelter & settlements, protection, organisational development, and disaster risk management.
