Event description

Enjoy old fashioned, flavoursome fresh food when you save and grow from your own seed! There’s nothing better than GMO free*, chemical free heirloom varieties, especially when you can grow them yourself. In this workshop, we look at how to save seed, as well as how to set up a private or community seed bank for local food security.

Seed saving is a simple and delicious way to build plant and community resilience that has been practiced for generations. When we save seed from proven, locally adapted varieties of our favourite veggies and herbs like tomatoes, pumpkins, lettuce and spinach we always get better results in the garden.

This very practical workshop is perfect for a group of friends, local gardening groups and backyard or balcony food growers who seek to do something fun
and worthwhile towards saving heirloom and local seed varieties. Linda coordinates the Redlands Organic Growers Seed Savers group and has set up a seed bank of local and heirloom seeds to secure seed security.

Youth Offer

This workshop is also available for teenagers (12- to 17-year-olds) accompanied by mum, dad or an adult guardian who has also paid to attend the workshop.
