Nothing about us without us- IHC’s 75 Year Anniversary

This exhibition is an interweaving of photographic portraits, still life images, archival material and text.  It tells the story of IHC’s formation and evolution; a movement that champions the rights and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

Keith Anyon and his parents, Harold and Margaret, set the scene for IHC’s grassroots, parent led beginnings.  Over time, life for the intellectually disabled transitioned from institutionalisation, towards life in the community.  Critical to this social revolution were the actions of key people with drive, vision, and imagination.

Bridgit Anderson is an Ōtautahi Christchurch based photographer, specialising in human interest and history storytelling. All photographs in this exhibition were taken in 2024, by the curator under otherwise stated.
