Nourishment: Connection, Learning and Wellbeing Through Food
Event description
Join us for a special talk with Sarah Breckenridge, exploring the essential role of nourishment in childhood development. This session will explore how food, beyond its nutritional value, can become a profound medium for learning, connecting, and cultivating lifelong wellbeing. Focusing on mental and physical health, Sarah will highlight how everyday experiences with food offer children opportunities to develop independence, cultural awareness, sensory integration, and emotional connection. From preparing meals together to shared rituals at the table, nourishment becomes a foundation for growth, belonging, and resilience. Ideal for educators, carers, and anyone with a deep interest in childhood development, Sarah offers a rich perspective on how we can support the whole child through thoughtful, connected food practices.
Meet Sarah:
Sarah Breckenridge is a mother of two adult sons, whose professional journey began as a paediatric nurse. Inspired by her own children’s experience with Montessori education, she trained as an AMI 0–3 Guide and later became a postpartum doula, recognising the importance of supporting parents from the very beginning of their parenting journey. After more than a decade working in Montessori classrooms, Sarah now supports families on an individual basis through her practice, Prepared Parenting. As a Parental Doula, she offers a nurturing, non-judgemental, and trusted partnership, drawing on over forty years of accumulated wisdom in early childhood development. Her passion lies in helping families discover their unique path through parenthood—so that children can reach their fullest potential and parents can grow into the caregivers they truly aspire to be.
