    Event description

Thanks to your feedback, we'll be hosting two more Folktale Masterclasses in November.

This is a 2-hour workshop that will help you harness the transformative power of participant-led storytelling for evaluation.

To achieve a more equity-focused, culturally responsive, and participatory evaluation practice, we need to enable communities to engage in evaluation in their own voices from where they are. One effective way of achieving this is through the use of storytelling. Stories are a powerful means of expressing our lived experiences and conveying our identities while promoting understanding. Through storytelling, individuals can reflect on their experiences, make sense of them, and create meaning.

Participant-led storytelling is an approach that better reflects & refracts community voices in research and evaluation. Still, it also has the potential to be a powerful and transformative process that empowers individuals and drives change.

But what can this look like in practice?

What tools, methods and strategies do we need to authentically and ethically engage communities using storytelling?

In this session, we introduce Folktale, a digital platform that utilises mobile technology to facilitate participant-generated stories and explore its potential for qualitative, participatory & transformative evaluation methodologies.

    In this session, we will:

    • Introduce the concept of storytelling for research and evaluation
    • Demonstrate the digital storytelling platform and how it empowers stakeholders to tell their stories in their own voice.
    • Invite attendees to experience the impact of digital storytelling by recording their own stories and/or interviewing someone on-platform.
    • Consider and imagine video storytelling about your current programs or work and where it can enhance your evaluative practice.
    • Explore the opportunities, challenges and potential for utilizing digital storytelling tools for transformative and participatory evaluation practice.
