November Monthly Mingle
Event description
Join us for our July Monthly Mingle on Sunday 17 November. It is an informal get-together that aims to bring people closer to their local food system and community. Monthly Mingles are an opportunity to share food, stories, and views on sustainability and our food system.
This month we are pleased to welcome Cormac Farrell is an environmental scientist and bee-keeper, best known as the Head Beekeeper for the Australian Parliament. He manages several apiaries throughout Canberra, including training apiaries, organic orchards and tall rooftop apiaries, creating unique food experiences that educate and inspire, pushing the boundaries of what cities can produce.
His upcoming book titled 'Urban Beekeeping - the city as a hive' focuses not just on the various species of urban bees, but what we can do to re-shape our cities to include more green, more habitat, and especially more urban food! It is fitting that City Farm would be hosting an event around this book as the work here was an inspiration for some parts, and the training apiary hosted at Jerrabomberra Wetlands centre features in several sections. Come along to meet the author, and discuss how we can tap into the potential to manage bees for beauty, food and the local environment.
As usual, before Cormac’s talk, we’ll be firing up the pizza oven and will provide pizza bases, sauce, and cheese; please bring other pizza toppings for our volunteers to prepare various options to share.
Lunch: 1200 to 1:30 pm
Talk: 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm
Who: All welcome!
