NSW PLASTICS ACTION PLAN

Information session

Thursday 24 October 3pm AEDT (3pm Sydney time)

The NSW Government is committed to reducing the harm caused by single-use, unnecessary and problematic plastics. Earlier this year, NSW EPA heard feedback on the NSW Plastics: Next Steps issues paper, which helped to inform the development of proposed actions on plastic pollution in NSW.

The NSW Government has now published the NSW Plastics: The Way Forward action paper, outlining proposed bans and action on plastic from 2025 to 2030.

The Paper proposes actions to:

  • reduce highly littered plastic items in the environment
  • remove harmful chemicals from plastics and prevent the release of microplastics into the environment
  • align with the approaches of other states and territories in Australia, where doing so will achieve better outcomes for the environment, communities and businesses.

The NSW Government is consulting with the community, environment groups, businesses, industry, and other key stakeholders to understand whether the actions put forward in the paper will be an effective way to reduce the harm of unnecessary and problematic plastic in our society.

Your views on the actions proposed in the Paper are highly valued and will help to refine the proposed actions to address single-use, unnecessary, and problematic plastics in NSW.

THIS SESSION

National Retail are hosting a session on behalf of NSW EPA for industry to ask questions and clarify the actions proposed in the Paper.

This session is designed to inform stakeholders of the intent, scope and details of the Paper so that you can provide your feedback via the NSW EPA channels provided.

Please note, this session is not a channel to present your views on the proposed actions; it is designed so stakeholders can receive an overview, ask clarifying questions and then afterwards either fill out the survey or make a written submission to present your views.

AFTER THE SESSION

All impacted stakeholders are encouraged to submit their feedback directly to NSW EPA via the online survey on the Have Your Say website or by sending written feedback by email to plasticsconsultation@epa.nsw.gov.au.

Consultation closes 4 November 2024.
