Nubba Open Gardens

Join us for a beautiful day exploring five inspiring country gardens across the Hilltops region, held on Sunday 11 October 2026, with all proceeds donated to the Young Crisis Accommodation Centre (YCAC).

From a secret creekside cottage garden to a heritage homestead garden spend the day wandering, and support people and families in our local community experiencing homelessness and domestic and family violence.

Also on the day: a plant stall, book stall, live music and a raffle with over $3,800 in prizes, including a scenic helicopter flight for two, a gardener's delight package, and more (buy your tickets here)!

Spend the day exploring five beautiful gardens...

1. Sunshine Woods | Geraldine's Garden, Murrumburrah

A secret garden beside Murrimboolah Creek, twenty years in the making. Edna Walling and Mediterranean influences shape the planting and style, creating a haven for local wildlife and a peaceful retreat to wander and reflect. The name is a tribute to local neighbour Les Woods, who gave generous and invaluable help in the garden's early stages - all while insisting the only good flower was a cauliflower.

2. Pilkena | Kath's Garden, Nubba

Once a bare block, Pilkena is now full of colour and seasonal interest - buddleia, banksia roses, apricots, pears, olives, Manchurian pears, plums, apples, oranges, lemon trees, bottlebrush, rosemary and bulbs, alongside melaleuca, grevillea and diosma. With its rose arbor, stone pathway and abundant floral plantings, it's the quintessential cottage garden - and hardly ever watered. This is where our raffle will be drawn.

3. Cooringle Cottage | Deb's Garden, Nubba

Built in 1878 as the residence for the Nubba Public School headmaster, Cooringle Cottage sits elevated with views over the surrounding valley. To the front is a terraced, formal garden with historic fountain and around the back, an inviting patio nestles under a sprawling heirloom apricot tree. A wisteria-covered retreat overlooks the pool and valley beyond, and a fire pit with bridge-timber seating offers another place to take in the views. A fruit salad orchard, kitchen garden and 120 year old Moreton Bay fig tree complete the picture. Devonshire teas on the lawn available here.

4. Wyona | Jo's Garden, Nubba

Thirty-eight years ago, as newly-weds, Mark and Jo took on their "renovator's delight" stone cottage - and the garden has grown alongside their home and family ever since. Plants have been sourced from gardens and nurseries far and wide, with some still remaining from the original garden dating back to the late 1800s. The magnificent golden elm started life in Jo's mother's garden in Dirranbandi, Queensland, while the majestic Chinese weeping elm from Quambone was planted to celebrate Lucy's birth 34 years ago - every plant here has a story to tell. Enjoy live music and the plein air artists in residence as you wander through this haven of tranquil beauty, and maybe even pick up a something special at Pink Pot Garden Spot’s stall.

5. Tumbleton | Tracey's Garden, Wombat

End your day at Tumbleton, where a grape-covered courtyard leads you through winding gravel paths and perennial, exotic and native plant beds, framed by Escallonia iveyi hedges and clipped shrubby germander. Granite retaining walls create different levels, with stairs drawing you up to new garden "rooms" beneath expansive trees, including several European limes. Settle in for lunch on the lawn of this stunning country garden.
